Chaired by Dinti Batstone, Vice-Chair of CGB, the fringe looked at whether MPs could job share and how Parliament could be more family-friendly. The panel of speakers included Lynne Featherstone, MP, Minister for Equalities; Sarah Jackson OBE, CEO of Working Families; Anna Bird, CEO of Fawcett Society; and Maggy Pigott CBE, a retired job-sharing senior civil servant.
The fringe was very well attended, with the panel providing thought-provoking insights, followed by stimulating questions and comments from our lively audience.
Dinti Batstone, who has campaigned vigorously for candidates to be empowered to stand for election on a job-share basis, was delighted with the fringe's success: "Done properly, parliamentary job-sharing can be a win-win for constituents and politics. It would make becoming an MP more viable for many women, and bring a greater diversity of real world experience into Parliament. Constituents are fed-up with Westminster bubble career politicians - this is a chance to break open the closed shop".
