If you are a woman thinking about your next steps in politics, get in touch with us and we will talk you through the processes, giving advice, training and practical help. The Campaign's work focuses on the following areas:
Training
- Regional 'Inspiration Days'
CGB Inspiration & Training Days are friendly and informal events, designed to give female members the opportunity to learn more about becoming active in the party. The day includes training on key skills, information and advice on becoming a candidate - if you have ever been interested in standing as a candidate or would like to build on your existing skills, look out for an event in your area!
- Training sessions at Federal Conferences.
The Campaign runs a full programme of training at federal conferences, focusing on specific areas and skills to help attendees become effective and successful Parliamentary Candidates.
- Annual 'Future Women MPs' weekend.
An intensive residential weekend of training specifically aimed at women who are serious about becoming MPs. The weekend has limited places, so if you are interested in attending the next event please contact the Campaign Organiser.
Mentoring
The mentoring scheme is designed to support women who are in the process of becoming, or thinking of becoming, parliamentary candidates. It aims to assist them at various stages of the approvals and selection process, whether they need general information about the process, specific advice about their individual situation, or skills-based help in a particular area such as hustings, speech-making, creating websites and designing manifestos.
The mentoring scheme works both ways. You can either benefit from being paired with a mentor or decide to be a mentor yourself. By using your experience, support, and skills in this way, you are helping to give women potential candidates the confidence and support they may need to achieve their full potential. This is a rewarding role, which is very much appreciated by those who benefit from it.
Support
The Campaign provides a network of support for potential female candidates, including a monthly newsletter with information about CGB training and events, and an online 'Resource Centre' containing useful tips and sample documents.
Candidates Leadership Programme - applications open
Applications are now open for the Leadership Programme. Please email leadershipprogramme@libdems.org.uk to request an application pack. Deadline is 30th September 2011.
The Liberal Democrat Candidate Leadership Programme is a new initiative designed specifically to identify and develop outstanding candidates from under-represented groups within the Party, with 50% of places reserved for women. Candidates on the Programme will be given structured support, development and training all the way through to the General Election, and is particularly focused on candidates who would like to apply for the most competitive seat selections.
